In 2021, we started this exciting collaboration with Relox Robotics to transform the efficiency and precision of golf course maintenance. Our joint effort has resulted in the creation of a state-of-the-art automated golf ball picker, designed to revolutionise the way golf courses manage their ball collection process.
Our role is to assist in the development of the software that drives this innovative machine, utilising the robust capabilities of ROS2. This choice of technology ensures that the software is not only reliable but also includes real-time processing features necessary for optimal operational efficiency. The robot is also equipped with fleet management for over-the-air (OTA) updates, allowing seamless software upgrades across multiple units without physical interaction.
The robot is a durable and efficient picker that is capable of collecting up to 30,000 golf balls daily. This high-capacity operation makes it an invaluable asset for busy golf courses looking to reduce labor costs and increase collection speed. Equipped with advanced GPS technology, the picker offers exceptional navigational capabilities with position accuracy up to 2.5 cm. This precision allows for seamless operation even in complex landscapes, ensuring that no ball is left behind.
Understanding that each golf course has unique needs, the golf ball picker features customizable collection zones. Operators can easily define where and when the picker should operate, allowing for tailored collection strategies that fit specific course requirements. Additionally, the machine can be programmed to work on a predetermined schedule, maximising efficiency and minimising disruption to golfers.
